Carson City Symphony was founded in 1984 as the Carson City Chamber Orchestra and gave its first concert in October that year. It is a community orchestra open to amateur and volunteer professional musicians. Members come from all walks of life and have ranged from elementary school students to senior citizens. The Symphony performs five or more concerts each year for audiences in Carson City. It also has performed in Minden, Gardnerville, Fallon, South Lake Tahoe, and Virginia City. We play many works by contemporary composers and have commissioned and premiered several pieces.

Our Mission Statement (2019)

The mission of Carson City Symphony Association is to
(1) enhance the quality of life in northern Nevada by providing creative, educational, and social opportunities for amateur and volunteer professional instrumentalists and vocalists of all ages;
(2) educate and entertain a broad and diverse audience, including residents, visitors, and tourists;
(3) enhance music education for the K-12 student population and adults; and
(4) expand our reputation for adventurous programming by playing music by contemporary composers and featuring non-traditional solo instruments.

The Carson City Symphony Assoc. is a member of the Carson City Downtown Business Assoc.

Four Carson City Students Awarded
Rosemary Nebesky Memorial Scholarships

Photograph of 2024 scholarship winners

Media Release - January 10, 2025: Raymon Owen, Lucy Hoppe, Gracie Shane, and Luca Capitani were awarded the ninth annual Rosemary Nebesky Memorial Scholarships by the Carson City Symphony Association at the Holiday Treat concert on December 15, 2024. The scholarship was established by John and Jennifer Webley of Santa Rosa, Calif., in memory of Rosemary Nebesky, who loved music, loved children, and had been a friend and board member of the Carson City Symphony Association. It is awarded each year to one or more Carson City students age 5 to 17 to further their instrumental music education. The recent winners are passionate about music and were highly recommended by their teachers.

Raymon Owen is a junior at Carson High School. He has played bass for six years, starting in 6th grade. He also plays percussion in the Blue Thunder Marching Band and improvises on cello. He participates in Honor Orchestra, Solo and ensemble festival, and a student jazz combo. He plans to use his scholarship for the Winter Drumline program, Honor Band, All-State Orchestra, and private lessons on bass.

Lucy Hoppe is an 8th grader at Carson Middle School. She has played violin for four years and has auditioned for Honor Orchestra and All-State Orchestra. She admires the high energy, choreographed, performances of violinist Lindsey Stirling. Lucy will use her scholarship to participate in Carson City School Orchestras' Spring Trip to the Bay area.

Gracie Shane is an 8th grader at Eagle Valley Middle School. She has played violin for seven years. She has participated in the NZNMEA Festival and the Carson City School Orchestras' Spring Trip, was a section leader in Honor Orchestra as a sixth grader, and has won a Superior rating in the Solo and Ensemble Festival. She will use her scholarship to continue private violin lessons.

Luca Capitani is a 6th grader at Eagle Valley Middle School. He began playing trumpet in 2023 and cello in 2024. His orchestra director, Dr. Brian Fox, said he has the right combination of talent, dedication, and curiosity to excel and has grown musically by leaps and bounds. He will use his scholarship for private cello lessons.

The Webley-Nebesky family made a further contribution to the scholarship fund at the end of 2023 to continue the awards for years to come. The next round of scholarships will be awarded in fall of 2025. For more information about the scholarship and the application process, contact the Symphony at 775-883-4154 or carsoncitysymphony@gmail.com.
