Carson City Symphony was founded in 1984 as the
Carson City Chamber Orchestra and gave its first concert in October that
year. It is a community orchestra
open to amateur and volunteer professional musicians.
Members come from all walks of life and have ranged from elementary school
students to senior citizens.
The Symphony performs five or more concerts each year for
audiences in Carson City.
It also
has performed in Minden, Gardnerville, Fallon, South Lake Tahoe, and Virginia
City. We play many works by contemporary composers and have commissioned and
premiered several pieces.
Our Mission Statement (2019)
The mission of Carson City Symphony Association is to
(1) enhance the quality of life in northern Nevada by providing creative, educational,
and social opportunities for amateur and volunteer professional instrumentalists
and vocalists of all ages;
(2) educate and entertain a broad and diverse audience, including residents, visitors,
and tourists;
(3) enhance music education for the K-12 student population and adults; and
(4) expand our reputation for adventurous programming by playing music by
contemporary composers and featuring non-traditional solo instruments.
The Carson City Symphony Assoc. is a member of the

The scholarship was established by a generous gift from Jennifer and John Webley in
memory of Rosemary Nebesky, former board member and friend of the Carson City Symphony
Association.
The Carson City Symphony Association announces the ninth annual instrumental music
scholarship for Carson City students age 5 to 17. The scholarship was established by a
generous gift from Jennifer and John Webley in memory of Rosemary Nebesky, former board
member and friend of the Carson City Symphony Association.
The award of $250 to $1,000 is to further the student's music education. It can be used
for lessons, workshop, music camp, master class, or other educational opportunity.
To qualify, the student must live in Carson City, attend school in Carson City, or study
with a music teacher in Carson City.
Funds will be paid to the teacher or program, not to the individual applicant. If the
award includes travel expenses, it will be paid on reimbursement basis.
Applicants must be enrolled in their school instrumental music program unless the student
is home-schooled or their school does not have an instrumental music program. A waiver of this
requirement can be requested with written explanation signed by the school instrumental music
instructor. Students may reapply each year, but no more than two scholarships will be awarded
to any individual.
