Carson City Symphony was founded in 1984 as the
Carson City Chamber Orchestra and gave its first concert in October that
year. It is a community orchestra
open to amateur and volunteer professional musicians.
Members come from all walks of life and have ranged from elementary school
students to senior citizens.
The Symphony performs five or more concerts each year for
audiences in Carson City.
It also
has performed in Minden, Gardnerville, Fallon, South Lake Tahoe, and Virginia
City. We play many works by contemporary composers and have commissioned and
premiered several pieces.
Our Mission Statement (2019)
The mission of Carson City Symphony Association is to
(1) enhance the quality of life in northern Nevada by providing creative, educational,
and social opportunities for amateur and volunteer professional instrumentalists
and vocalists of all ages;
(2) educate and entertain a broad and diverse audience, including residents, visitors,
and tourists;
(3) enhance music education for the K-12 student population and adults; and
(4) expand our reputation for adventurous programming by playing music by
contemporary composers and featuring non-traditional solo instruments.
The Carson City Symphony Assoc. is a member of the
Carson City Downtown Business Assoc.

"Pleasure of Music" Concert
A Tribute to Jane Johnson
Friday, May 10, 2024
Carson City Symphony Association's Consort Canzona (early music recorder ensemble) and
Not Quite Ready for Carnegie Hall Players (string ensemble) present
"Pleasures of Music" concert, a tribute to Jane Johnson, on Friday, May, 10, 2024, at 7:30 p.m.
at Shepherd of the Sierra, 3680 N. Hwy. 395, Carson City (behind Best Buy).
This is a Mark Twain Days Festival
event (see MarkTwainDays.com). The event is free and donations are welcome.
Jane Johnson was long associated with the Carson City Symphony. She was an early member
of the Carson Chamber Singers and had even participated in the second concert of the Carson
City Symphony as a member of the Carson Civic Choir. Later she took up cello and played with the
Carson City Symphony starting in 2001. She would talk glowingly about her cello teacher.
She became a dedicated librarian for the Symphony and, like the dedicated teacher she
had been, dutifully took orchestra attendance at every rehearsal, which was a great help
in maintaining that and other important record keeping. Jane was an active founding
member of Consort Canzona, the Symphony's early music ensemble, and served as liaison
for the group. She was also a big promoter of her university women's group and sold
many bags of pecans for that cause at rehearsals leading up to the Holiday Treat concerts.
The Dec. 10, 2023, Holiday Treat Concert was her last performance on cello.
