Strings in the Schools”

2006-07

 

What:        An exciting after-school program providing beginning violin lessons for students grades 2-5 and ensemble/orchestra experience for all string students in the Carson City School District.  Tuition and books are subsidized by the Carson City Symphony Association.  The instructor is Sue Kitts.  Enrollment is limited and is on a first come, first served basis, and classes start first week of school (August 28).  Some scholarships are available for instruments.

Where:     Seeliger Elementary School

                  2800 S. Saliman Rd

When:       Beginning Violin Lessons - Grades 2-5

                  Mondays, after school until 4:15pm

                  Violin Ensemble 1

                  For the student who has successfully completed beginning violin

                  Mondays,  4:15 to 5:00 (please arrive at 4:00pm for tuning)

                  Violin Ensemble 2

                  For the more advanced student preparing for the orchestra

                  Wednesdays, after school until 4:15pm (1:30 – 2:45 Early Release Days)

                  Youth Orchestra/String Ensemble

                  For all string students with previous experience

                  Thursdays, after school until 5:00pm*

         *High School and Middle School students and adult mentors should arrive at 3pm.

 

 

This program is funded by the CC Symphony Assoc.; grants from the Nevada Arts Council, a stage agency, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and the Sierra Philharmonic League; and private donations.
